Before completing an energy survey, we recommend you write down a few details first, such as the type of outside wall of your home, thickness of insulation in your home, the number and type of windows, and whether or not you use energy saving light bulbs.

There are efficient alternatives to fossil fuels and will help you to meet your own energy requirements and reduce your homes carbon dioxide emissions. Things like leaving lights on or overfilling the kettle all waste energy and result in unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions. To save money and reduce your carbon footprint, use a low temperature on your washing machine and dishwasher, turn your thermostat down by one degree- it could save you up to 10 per cent on your bills. Turn off lights when you leave a room, and remember not to keep appliances on standby- turn them off at the mains.

Obviously an energy efficiency certificate is also a recognized form of documenting energy efficiency. It shows businesses are working towards lowering their carbon emissions and fuel outgoings.  Many companies who do not need certificates by law are having DECs carried out to demonstrate their green credentials.
